Lykke Copper Needle Set Review

I’ve wondered for quite a while if the more expensive needle sets are worth the money spent.  Just yesterday, I purchased the new Cypra set from Lykke (the copper ones) and my answer is a resounding YES!

Since learning to knit, I’ve always used this set from Knitpicks.  They are a great set of wooden needles!  If you’re just starting out, or on a budget, I definitely recommend them.  I also have this set in the square short tip needles & I love them.  They are easy to use and come in lots of cute colors.

But yesterday, I spied the Cypra set at Yarntiques, my local LYS.  And they are freakin’ stunning, y’all!  But would I like to knit with them?

This is an honest, unbiased review. I have affiliate links in this post that will give me a little boost, but cost you nothing. But I have purchased this set of needles at full price, and have received no compensation from the manufacturer or any sales outlet.

If you haven’t seen the Cypra set, they are a shiny pure copper.  They are not coated with anything, so you get the look & feel of the real copper.  According to Lykke, they will get a “soft patina” (or natural discoloration) as they age, or you can order the cleaning cloth to keep them all shiny.  But the company also says they will not stain your knitting, even if you leave the patina on them.

Benefits of Copper

I was immediately drawn to them because of the health benefits of copper.  Similar to wearing copper jewelry,  by using these needles, you should slowly absorb just a touch of the copper into your skin.  Copper is one of the minerals our bodies require to function.  It is known to help with inflammation, arthritis, joint pain and even headaches.  I’ve been struggling with a little arthritis in my right hand, and I’m hopeful these will help.

Needle Tip Size

The 5” set that I purchased comes with 12 pairs of tips, beginning with size 3, and working up to size 15.  This is a great range!  I love that they have the little 3, since I use that size a lot.  They also include the 10.5 size, which isn’t always true of interchangeable sets.  The set also includes 2 connectors, 4 keys, and 8 stoppers.

Swivel Cord

But the absolute GAME CHANGER of these needles is in the swivel cord.  These clear, memory-free cables actually swivel inside the connector joint, so they never get tangled up.  This also keeps the join from un-twisting as you knit.  If you’ve ever un-twisted your needle tips from your cable, you know what a huge pain it is!  I’ve dropped a whole row of stitches before, just because I didn’t realize it came undone.

Needle Tip Composition

The needle tips themselves are so beautiful.  They have imperial & metric sizes stamped onto the metal.  They’re a moderately-pointy tip, with a long-ish taper.  They make a gentle noise when you knit.  I personally find this very relaxing.  They are fast without being too fast.  I do feel a little bit of friction (or grippy-ness) as I use them.  These needles start out cool to the touch, but the copper warms in your hands from your own body heat.  And again, they are seriously the prettiest needles!

Interchangeable needle case

The case is a vegan suede that comes in either dark brown or black with copper accents.  The case is designed to stand and comes with a generous interior pocket and an additional exterior zipper pocket for notions storage.  I love the elasticized tip holder, because I can see most of the needle at a glance, making it easier to choose the correct size.

Get your set

A few more notes about the set:  They come with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturer defects.  If you happen to destroy a piece or just need extras, replacements are available for all the parts.  Retail price for this set is approximately $160, which really isn’t much more than any other set.  These are a screw-on type of join that uses the little wire “key”.  This is the same as my other set, so I was already comfortable using them, but the swivel cord in these should help keep them secure.  I’m including an amazon link below, but if you like them, please see if your local yarn shop carries them!  Here’s the link to Yarntiques.  Candice can ship you a set if you like!  I bought my set from her and so far, I love them.
